Buying Films and Music

For any avid fan of the movies, the internet is probably the best place to buy those new features and classic films to add to your collection. As retailers continue to battle it out in the prices war, internet searches can find the same films as sold on the high street for up to 75& less, sometimes even more. Bargain!

The Classics
Occasionally if a film is old enough, or sometimes just too 'misunderstood' by the rest of the general public, then they can fade into history, collecting dust on a shelf somewhere. It is quite common for god films to skip the cinematic release and go straight to video or DVD which means that so few people even hear about them, that there is in fact a whole history of culture and storytelling just waiting for someone to watch, and the best place to get hold of these are clearly online.

The classifieds can be a great place to start with those less famous or less popular films. Whilst many are second hand, finding them in good condition isn't difficult and can save a fortune compared to high street stores that will charge a fortune on anything that doesn't sell well.

Video V's DVD
In an age of ever evolving technology, there is one obvious victim that shouldn't be ignores, and that is the humble video. Many electrical stores don't even bother to sell VCR's anymore, knowing that technology and people have moved on to the sleeker, trendier, slimmer plasma screens and DVD's. But for anyone who has fond memories of the video, or perhaps simply refuses to forget them, then the classifieds are by far the best place to get cheap second hand editions. As more and more people want to clear space on their shelves to make room for their slimmer and better looking successors, the wave of bargains available on videos is almost overwhelming.

From classic love stories to horror films, comedies to those films that have bad props and worse dialogue, almost anything can be found if you're prepared to shop around.
If you've ever reminisced about a television play or series you watched as a child but can't find it anywhere, why not write up an advertisement on a classified site and see if anyone else can help.

Pirates
No, this isn't a reference to the latest film franchise, but is more of a warning against the most obvious dangers of buying second hand films from an unknown source. Whilst larger retailers or business might charge that little bit extra, remember that they are licensed sellers. Whilst it is illegal to sell stolen goods, you can get into trouble from buying them too, and proving that you didn't know they were stolen won't be easy. Be wary of anyone selling DVD's at ridiculously cheap prices, it may well be that they have ulterior motives for wanting to get rid of them quickly, but remember too, that you can't judge the quality of the films (not the quality of the acting and directing etc, but the actual film itself). If you find you're watching the film as if at the back of the cinema with a few heads in front, if there is a bit of cracking in sound or the credits have been trimmed or even if the copy of the box simply doesn't look right, then chances are you're just bought a pirate DVD, and you can almost guarantee he seller isn't going to apologise and give you a refund.

Try not to be too put off by the dangers that lie in buying films and music online, most of the people selling privately will be genuinely nice people trying to make a bit of space or earn a little bit of extra cash.

The Sound of music
Downloading music from the internet on to the latest tiny gadget seems to be making more and more music retailers redundant. It is possible to download individual songs without having to buy the whole album which is great if you like a particular song by a specific group but aren't too keen on the rest. All of this means that CD's which not too long ago replaced the humble cassette tape, are being tossed aside �or even better, sold off.

Anyone who has a healthy interest in music can make some great finds online; not just from more established or contemporary bands or artists, but even from brand new not-famous-yet bands who want to get their music heard by anyone willing to listen. If discovering new bands is your thing, then you could do worse than to check out the classified sites and look for anyone claiming to be the new best band around. The classifieds can also be a popular way for people to recruit new band members so if you fancy your chances of doing a concert at Wembley, then why not give it a go?

Overall the potential finds are massive, and not just in films and music themselves, but in all other related products � they can be a great place to find cheap but still quite new home cinemas as those people who are merely concerned with keeping up with the Jones' will soon want to get rid of their 'old' items. They can also be great places to find musical instruments which are traditionally very expensive. If you've always fancied the idea of playing the trumpet for example, perhaps it's better to get a second hand one and try it to see if you're family will let you get an expensive brand new one
