The subjects of politics, philosophy and religion cover a wide range of different types of literature. Factual based books, works of fiction and even autobiographies can all be found in these subjects. However such books are not normally top of everyone's reading list and its quite likely that you will require these books for some sort of educational purpose, or perhaps you have studied the subjects in the past and you're looking to keep up with current literature.

Buying politics philosophy and religion books and magazines
You could be looking for politics, philosophy and religious books for many different reasons; from studying at university or college to collecting some important literary works. Many of the larger book stores will have such a section and will carry many of the popular titles needed for study, however it might be harder to track down some or the more obscure and specific titles.

Politics
Politics is such a broad subject that you won't be short of things to read! Not only can you study individual politicians and their regimes, but there is also the historical element of politics to consider; looking at how the different political parties have evolved over time and what influences they've had on the economy etc, and that's just within Great Britain! Looking at politics on a global scale can be fascinating; learning about how different political regimes have influenced a counties development and its relationship with neighbouring countries.

Philosophy
We owe out love of wisdom to the ancient Greeks! The word philosophy can be broken down into two parts; phil meaning "love" and sophy meaning "wisdom." Combined, the two elements mean both a love of wisdom and a desire for it. In English, philosophy first appears in writing as early as 1340 so there is a wealth of literature here. Philosophy has been around since ancient times so there is no shortage of literary material. Some of the most important historical works are philosophy books and include contributions from Socrates, Plato and Aristotle, although this is really just scratching the surface when it comes down to the great ancient works.

Whether you are looking for an ancient work or something more modern, there will be something out there to suit you! When talking about something more complicated it could be worth getting a commentary or study guide to help you along the way.

Religion
With so many different religions now represented in our society today, there is no shortage of material about. Most book stores will have a religious section containing some of the more popular and more main stream works. However if you are really looking to delve into a particular religion then it is worth going to you chosen religions centre where they meet. Here you will be able to speak to someone about what literature can best meet your requirements.

Books for Studying
If you are studying for a qualification then find out what texts are required by the examining board. These could include specific learning aids containing all the facts you need, but may also include some reference books and novels. If there is a book store on campus then they should stock most of the books you need. However when you're studying, a popular way to buy the books you need is to look out for older students selling the books they no longer need. This will not only secure you a bargain, but also make sure you buy the right material, and put you in touch with other students who may be able to offer you advice on coursework or exams.

General literature and magazines
If you are no longer studying and a looking for material to satisfy your own general interests, then it is probably worth taking out a subscription to an academic journal or magazine that is published for your chosen subject. This will keep you up to date with new published material.

Buying New or Second Hand?
When investing in books it's worth considering buying them second hand. The larger reference type books can often be quite expensive and so you could save yourself some money by choosing a second hand option. Because the books will be cheaper this could mean you'll be able to make your money go further. Second hand books are also the obvious choice if the title you are looking for is out of print. The best way to go about tracking down an out of print book is to contact a specialist second hand book seller, as they will be more familiar with the most appropriate ways to search for the book you require.

Buying second hand is also the green option; it's far better to recycle. If someone has books they no longer need then it's a shame to have them go to waste, and it's much nicer for them to be passed on to give enjoyment and utility to someone else. However there are a few things to consider when buying second hand. Be aware that these are not new items so don't be disappointed if something has a 'worn-in' feel. Also read the advert carefully to make sure you know exactly what you are buying, and check the terms and conditions; these will probably be down to the individual seller. Don't be afraid of contacting them to ask about the item and make sure you feel comfortable with the price you are paying. Most people will want to get rid of the items they are advertising and should be willing to help; if they won't, then perhaps question their motives.
