Skiers and snowboarders will also need to buy some form of special boots before they can take off. If buying ski boots then look for a comfortable fit and for boots that will keep your feet warm and dry (there's nothing worse than skiing with cold, damp feet!). The same goes for snowboard boots as well, of course. And, it is important to check (especially with snowboards where the boots may have to use bindings to connect with the board) that the boots will work with the snowboard or skis.

There are also various accessories in the skiing and snowboarding sector to choose from. Some of these (such as poles for skiers) are essential and some are simply 'nice to have'. When buying ski poles think about the kind of preferred skiing first -- poles come in all shapes and sizes and some are suitable for downhill skiing, some are better for cross country skiing and so on. Buying skiing and snowboarding equipment second hand
Given that skiing and snowboarding equipment can be quite a major purchase it may suit many people more to pick up a bargain second hand. Many skiers upgrade their equipment regularly and then sell off their old kit so this is a good way of saving money. Others simply find that they don't use the equipment and may as well get rid of it -- there are potentially good bargains here as well as this equipment may not have been used much at all. And, many parents regularly have to sell off their kid's ski or boarding kit as they outgrow it. So, buying second hand here isn't an issue with a little care and attention.

If buying this kind of equipment online then bear in mind that it won't be possible to try it on. So, check out measurements and fittings first and then compare them to the item for sale. It is also important to check on condition and quality here -- broken or defective boards and skis could lead to potentially serious accidents and a ski jacket with a big tear in it simply won't give adequate weather protection.

So, ask the seller plenty of questions. Try and find out if the skis or snowboard is in good condition, ask if there is any damage and check that it still works OK. Ask if it still has all the original fittings and so on. And, if at all possible ask to see photos of the equipment before buying to get a visual impression of its general condition and quality.
