Nowadays a lot more of us are turning to DVDs when it comes to improving our sports and fitness. Young boys (and some girls!) may use football training DVDs to learn new skills and tricks, whilst adults may buy these kinds of titles to be able to hone up their fitness skills or simply to do an aerobic fitness workout from the comfort of their own home. Many popular titles will be branded with celebrity names, for example football videos fronted by a Premiership footballer, fitness DVDs fronted by a popular celebrity, and general health and fitness titles may be fronted up by a TV health and fitness expert. Other titles may simply cover more general or specialist aspects of a health, sports or fitness regime in which you are interested.

Where to find Sports and Fitness DVDs
Most high street DVD/video stores will have a specific section that deals with sports and fitness. Although this may not give you the widest choice of titles, you will still find current and popular options to choose from. Second hand stores and charity shops may also give good options here.

To get the widest choice (or a hard to find DVD in this sector) then you may want to shop online. This could also save you some money as it is generally easier to pick up a bargain online than it is in a high street store (especially if you buy second hand DVDs). This can be the case even if you buy a new sports and fitness DVD as many e-tailers automatically offer discounts even on new titles, to encourage people to buy. Do remember, however, to factor in postage costs to make sure that you really do save some money here!

Things to Look out for when Buying Sports and Fitness DVDs
Make sure that any sports and fitness DVD that you buy will work on your DVD player. If your player, for example, will only play Region 1 DVDs (i.e. those targeted at the UK and European market) then buying a DVD set for a different region isn't worth the bother as it won't work on your machine! If your player is multi-region then this won't be an issue.

You also should make sure that you are buying an original version of a sports and fitness DVD and not a pirated copy. Pirated copies are not legal and the chances are that the quality of picture that you get will not be as good as with an original version, so you could simply be wasting your money.

Buying Sports and Fitness DVDs online
If you buy your sports and fitness DVDs online then you will find it easier to find the titles that you want, and you could make some serious cost savings, especially if you buy second hand titles. However, you will not be able to see the actual DVD before you buy it which can make it hard to see the quality and condition of the DVD. Obviously this isn't an issue if you buy new in a shop or second hand in a charity shop when you can make a check for yourself

You will need to ask the seller questions about the DVD title(s) before you commit to buying anything. So, for example, ask them if there is any damage to the DVD and if it plays OK. Find out why they are selling it; a lot of people will sell DVDs that are 'as new' because they bought them to start a fitness routine and then got bored and didn't use the DVD at all! Or it may have been an unwanted gift that has never been opened!

Most online sellers will give you a digital photo of the DVD which will help you work out what state it is in and whether it is an original version or a pirated copy. Beware of stock images which sellers can copy from other sites and photo libraries, you want to see the actual title that you will be buying!

Finally, make sure to check if the seller has a returns policy in case there is a problem with the DVD when you get it and play it. Check to see if they have been given feedback or testimonials from other people who have purchased DVDs from them online, and if they seem honest and reliable. Find out how much they will charge for postage and how they will send the item. A badly packed DVD could get damaged in the post. Excessive postage costs will cut into the savings you could potentially make by buying second hand DVDs online, so make sure that all charges are reasonable.
