Buying sports leisure equipment and services

The internet has undoubtedly made the process of shopping a hundred times easier than it ever was before. With competitive prices, the freedom to shop twenty four hours a day from the comfort of our own homes and with door to door delivery available, it would come as no surprise if the high streets were starting to look a bit empty. But with no incentive to even leave the house, perhaps more of us should be making enquiries into where to best places to buy sports and leisure equipment are.

Where to look.
Although there are specialist websites that cater for most sporting needs, more often than not, the products featured will be the most contemporary and therefore most pricey. But what if you're looking for something simple? Something to put in the garage or spare room, what if you're looking for a something a little bit different than what is available from these sorts of retailers?

Classified websites are a great place to buy and sell products from this particular classification. Whilst there are some brand new items and products available at a good price, the best bargains tend to be second hand � and as there is no cost to browse or advertise.

What to buy
Camping equipment, home gyms, golf clubs, fitness bikes, even weekends away at a health retreat; almost anything can be found. But even if you're not quite sure what to get, then there is help available from the classified sites, all you really need to work out is what it is you want to achieve.

If its overall fitness that you want to improve then perhaps indulge in something more catered for cardiovascular exercise. This is good for all-round fitness and circulation, great for getting the blood pumping around the body. A simple search could lead you to a treadmill suitable for home use, a rowing machine or an exercise bike. These are the most popular sorts of home fitness equipment and therefore the most likely to turn up as second hand items.

If its flexibility and suppleness that you're after then something low-impact is better suited. Pilates and Yoga are just as popular as they were to begin with, and now there is a wide range of accessories and aids to help you get in the groove. Both disciplines are good for strength and mobility, posture and muscle tone, and there is a large deal of information to be found about them on the internet for those who want to try it at home before signing up to a class. Small weights, exercise mats, books and how-to DVD's are all helpful tools, and widely available for anyone prepared to try something new.

For those who want to achieve a more Rocky Balboa look, then look no further than a home gym. Sports centres can charge the earth when really all were doing is paying large sums of cash to use their equipment � so why not invest in some of your own? Home gyms can easily be found on the internet and are great for improving strength and muscle tone. They may take up a bit of room but they can be easy to dismantle which makes things easier for delivery. Classified websites will list the nearest sellers for those more sensible people who can envisage the cost of all those weights at the post office.

What not to buy
It may well be a matter of taste but sifting through the sports and leisure classifieds can really show some of the more unusual items that people want to sell. Unsurprisingly, perhaps, an extra large second-hand wet-suit still hasn't sold, but perhaps the seller will be lucky soon.

Buyers should be wary of the condition of the items they might be buying. There are no guarantees of how safe or good the condition of the items are until you seem them for yourself, but as with most classified sites, payment is exchanged before hand. Try to browse those items that have photographs available in their adverts first, this will at least indicate the condition of the product, and perhaps justify the price.

Second hand equipment is less likely to come with a retailer warrantee, so be as sure as you can before parting with any money. Sports and leisure equipment can be dangerous if they are damaged so always remember to put safety first.

Healthy benefits
From fishing equipment to skis, camping equipment to a new set of darts, the classifieds really can be an intriguing place to browse. Whatever it is you choose to get, remember that any exercise at all is better than none. Over 30,000 deaths a year are caused by obesity in England alone; and if that figure isn't startling, almost 25% of Britons are obese, and three quarters are overweight. Perhaps all that internet shopping has made us let things slip, but with bargain deals on sports equipment to be found, there are really no more excuses.
