When looking at books and magazines on transport themes there is a wide range of literature to choose from. You can look into the history and development of a particular type of transport or even a specific operator or you may just be looking for the latest spotting guide! There is so much to choose from that before you set out to buy, it's best to think about what kind of book you want so you can look in the right place.

Buying books and magazines on transport themes
You could be looking for a Military book for many different reasons, from studying at school to collecting some important literary works. You can find military and war related literature in many different sections of the book store: reference, biography, fiction and poetry to name just a few. Where you shop for your books will depend on what you are looking for. There will hopefully be a few ideas here to help you find what you need.

Books for Studying
If you are studying for a qualification that requires you to delve into the history books or look at the make up of a particular type of transport, then find out what texts are required by the examining board. These could include specific learning aids containing all the facts you need, but may also include some reference books. It also can help to read around your subject for a greater understanding of the periods that you're learning about. In terms of where to buy, you will find most of the popular texts that are studied available in larger book stores. Alternatively if there is a book shop on campus then they should stock most of the books you need. However when you're studying, a popular way to buy the books you need is to look out for older students selling on the books they no longer need. This will not only secure you a bargain, but also make sure you buy the right material, and put you in touch with other students who may be able to offer you advice on coursework or exams.

Books for Reference
There are lots of factual transport books, such as those that provide information on the different types of certain modes of transport; for example there will be books out there covering the different types of ships used by the Navy, or the different types of planes used by British Airways etc. These can make good reference books or books to keep to see how things change as time progresses. Most larger book stores will stock popular titles, or they could order them in especially for you. Alternatively you could look out for books in transport related museums.

Transport Magazines
There are many magazines out there relating to transport; you can choose from those that cover what's new in the world of transport, looking at new models from a manufacturing point of view. Alternatively there are those that are written from an industry point of view looking at new developments in the services of different transport companies. If you're a spotter of planes or trains then there are also magazines to help you in your quest. It's always worth taking out a subscription to keep you up to date with what is happening.

Buying New or Second Hand?
When investing in books it's worth considering buying them second hand. The larger reference type books can often be quite expensive and so you could save yourself some money by choosing a second hand option. Because the books will be cheaper this could mean you'll be able to make your money go further. Second hand books are also the obvious choice if the title you are looking for is out of print. The best way to go about tracking down an out of print book is to contact a specialist second hand book seller as they will be more familiar with the most appropriate ways to search for the book you require.

Buying second hand is also the green option; it's far better to recycle. If someone has books they no longer need then it's a shame to have them go to waste, it's much nicer for them to be passed on to give enjoyment and utility to someone else. However there are a few things to consider when buying second hand. Be aware that these are not new items so don't be disappointed if something has a 'worn-in' feel. Also read the advert carefully to make sure you know exactly what you are buying, and check the terms and conditions; these will probably be down to the individual seller. Don't be afraid of contacting them to ask about the item and make sure you feel comfortable with the price you are paying. Most people will want to get rid of the items they are advertising and should be willing to help; if they won't, then perhaps question their motives.
