It can sometimes be hard to classify women's interest books -- the only limiting factor here, after all, is the interests of women! Obviously enough, these kinds of books tend to be purchased by women or for women as gifts. The beauty of this sector of the book industry is that it is possible to find books here to suit all tastes and interests from serious feminist treatises through to humorous books on motherhood.

Popular types of women's interest books
Women's interest books come in all shapes, varieties and sizes. Some are designed to be read, some to be consulted and some to be used (such as recipe books and so on). Some women like to buy modern books here and some like to collect old women's interest books -- this is a great way of seeing how the lives of the fair sex have changed over the years!

As alluded to above, books here can veer from the ultra- serious to the comical. At the serious end are books that cover subjects such as women's rights and feminism. These may be books that cover historical or cultural changes or books that look at modern day situations.

Many women also like to own inspirational women's interest books. These can include, for example, stories of individual women (or groups) that have battled to overcome adversity either in historical or in modern times. They may also have a philosophical, religious or cultural bias. For example, they may cover the use of a religion or philosophy in coping with everyday life. Other options here include accessories such as day planners, calendars and diaries that come with inspiring or motivational quotes.

Many women's interest book shelves will contain certain classic novels as well. These books may, again, be old or modern and they will generally be written by women who are considered to be seminal influences for women as a whole. The fact is that it isn't just classic books that can be counted as being classified within the women's interest area -- any book written by a woman for women will also count here.

There is a also a lot of humour in the women's interest book sector. People can buy books of cartoons, fictions and quotes, for example, on all kinds of subjects that relate to women. For example, they may buy a book on how to compete against men in the workplace, a cartoon book on the joys of chocolate or a book written by a mother about the trials and tribulations of bringing up kids in today's modern world.

Buying women's interest books second hand
Buying second hand books in general is very common nowadays. Some people do this because they need to get hold of a collectible, old or out of print book. Others simply find this a great way of buying a book that they want to read at a bargain price. So, it is possible to find all kinds of women's interest books this way.

Although buying a second hand book in a 'bricks & mortar' shop is quick and simple because the buyer can see the book at first hand, buying second hand books online is not quite as simple. But, this doesn't mean that it doesn't work -- the buyer here just needs to check out an item first before making a purchase. Many people will show photos with the books that they sell in this sector which gives a useful indication of quality and condition. This is especially important if buying a valuable old book as a collector where the condition of the book may have a significant effect on its value and resale potential.

If photos are not available then it is still easy to find out all of the necessary information by asking direct questions. Ask the seller why they are selling the book -- many people simply cull their book collections regularly to free up space or they may simply not like the book. They may also be looking to get rid of an unwanted or duplicate gift. A seller that has a good reason to sell will be the best bet here.

Buyers can also ask detailed questions of the seller about quality and condition. Ask them to describe the overall condition of both the book and the cover. Look to find out if it is in one piece, if it has all its pages (in the right place!) and -- if this is an issue -- if anyone has written anything at all inside the cover or on the margins of the pages themselves. Some people buying books here will not be too bothered about the condition as they simply want to read the book. Other people, however, like to own books in a decent condition -- so pitch questions according to preference here. Remember, the better the condition of the book the more the seller can charge.
